'Dance to your own tune is a specialized Pre-School Dance Curriculum offered by the Royal Academy of Dance. This invaluable educational tool has as a primary aim to develop the child's basic movement skills, musical awareness and expression through story themed classes, incorporating different kinds of props such as musical instruments, ribbons, costumes and wands.
Aimed for two age groups, Level 1: 2½ - 3½ and Level 2: 3½ - up to 5 years old, the Curriculum offers a pleasant 45 minute journey to its participants, where children have the opportunity to get inspired and creative in a playful and enjoyable environment but at the same time learning the basic steps of ballet. This will be achieved through the different story lines used in each session where necessary ballet steps are introduced and mastered each time.
As a result, children will explore the capabilities of their own bodies, develop their creativity and imagination, enhance their confidence and social skills, and learn how to express themselves through movement and music. 'Dance to your own tune' offers to the dance teachers fresh and creative tasks so as to stimulate the child's concentration and artistic quality and at the same time develop their interest in ballet and prepare them for the Pre-Primary Level.
We believe that this class is a great example of showing how learning can take place in a fun, creative and safe environment, and at the same time how a strong relationship can be shaped between the teacher and the child.
At Niki School of Ballet we follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) system of training, where we prepare students for exams. RAD offers internationally recognised examinations and assessments. Students may start with the Pre-School Dance curriculum ‘Dance to your own tune’, followed by the Pre-Primary and Primary levels and then into eight Graded levels or six Vocational Graded levels. Students study Graded Levels and have the freedom to study Vocational Levels simultaneously. Vocational graded examinations usually are aimed for those who wish to pursue a dancing career. At the same time we are encouraging students who do not wish to purse a dancing career to still attend these classes in order to strengthen their ballet performance and develop an in-depth knowledge in ballet genre. Our school is an examination centre and exams are held twice a year, in both winter and summer sessions. It is recommended that those seeking to take examinations should attend classes twice a week.
Since 1983, we have maintained a high standard of results and aim to continue this trend. Essentially, our school seeks to encourage all our students to embrace dance and achieve whatever they aspire to.
Discovering Repertoire is the latest RAD programme aimed for students over 12 years old. Also suitable for adult class too. It is an innovative programme since it includes well-known classical repertoires such as Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and many more. Students are given the opportunity to learn the choreographies of the original productions.

Modern Theatre Dance originated in America and due to its rigorous and dynamic style its popularity has spread rapidly across the rest of the world. This style borrows movements from important chorographers such as Martha Graham, Bob Fosse, but moreover has managed to combine nowadays influential genres. The style itself is seen on Broadway and West End musical productions.
Our school is also an ISTD Examination centre and we prepare students for Modern Theatre dance exams.
